Our Ethos

Saint Michael’s National School is a co-educational National School, under the patronage of the Church of Ireland Bishop of the United Dioceses of Limerick & Killaloe. The present Patron is the Right Reverend Doctor Kenneth Kearon. In line with DES advice in Rules for National Schools, that “… a religious spirit should inform and vivify the whole work of the school…” the Board of Management (BOM) of Saint Michael’s N.S. and the staff…

Saint Michael’s National School is a small, vibrant and diverse community. We have just under 120 pupils and provide a unique, small school experience in the heart of the city. The school is located between The People’s Park and Saint Michael’s church on Barrington Street. We like to say we are one of Limerick’s best kept secrets! We have small class sizes and we are a very inclusive school. We serve a diverse population and currently have families in the school from over twenty different countries. This is something we are very proud of and we organise events throughout the year to welcome and celebrate different cultures and languages in our school community, as well as promoting a supportive environment for pupils of all backgrounds and abilties.

Here in Saint Michael’s N.S., we are fortunate to have extremely dedicated teachers and staff. We constantly strive to provide an enjoyable educational experience for our pupils. Our wish for all our pupils is that each one reaches his/her full potential and has a happy, fulfilling school life in Saint Michael’s National School.

Over the past number of years, the school has undergone some changes. In October 2019 we opened our new extension and in 2020 we opened our amazing sensory garden. Since September 2024, we are delighted to be able to offer an after-school service run by provider Sinéad Daly. Parents can find out more in the ‘parent’ section of our website.

We provide Religious Education for our pupils in accordance with the doctrines, practices and traditions of the Church of Ireland and promote the formation of pupils in the Church of Ireland faith. Saint Michael’s National School is under the Patronage of the Bishop of Tuam, Limerick and Killaloe, the Rt Revd Michael Burrows. The school also works closely with The Very Reverend Niall Sloane, Dean of Limerick Cathedral.
